Mum & Baby Pilates / Strength Classes

We offer 3 class options for postnatal clients on Mondays, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Mum & baby class options are as follows:

  • Reformer & Mat Pilates – A gentle Pilates class tailored specifically to post-natal women, focusing on re-building strength after pregnancy and birth to restore and re-balance the body. This is low impact strength training – but low impact doesn’t mean low intensity – you’ll be challenged but in a safe and supported way. For reformer Pilates classes, babies are welcome until they’re able to roll around. For mat Pilates classes, babies are welcome until crawling.
  • Strength & Conditioning – A small group training session designed specifically for postnatal mums. Limited to just six participants, this class blends strength and cardio training with Pilates-based techniques using small equipment such as dumbbells and resistance bands as well as bodyweight. Babies are welcome up until crawling.

Recommended for mums who are at least 6 weeks post natal (10 weeks c-section) and have GP approval to exercise, These are very small group classes (6-8) and are suitable for beginners.

We know life with a baby is unpredictable – illness, naps and sleepless nights can change plans quickly. Your pass offers flexible booking, so you’re not tied to a fixed course or specific day. You can attend any Mum & Baby session on the timetable (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) and cancel up to 24 hours in advance if needed.

All classes take place at my studio, Centred Wellness, Garryduff Sports Centre, Rochestown. Click Book Now to see the days, times, cost and availability of classes, and to book your spot!

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the benefits of postnatal exercise?

  • Relieve back and pelvic pain
  • Re-build your strength at a safe pace
  • Meet other mums and enjoy some adult conversation
  • Re-connect with yourself, and feel absolutely amazing afterwards

What do I need to bring to the class?

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water with you.

For reformer Pilates, grip socks are essential (studio policy) and you can bring a pair or purchase them in studio for 20 euro. For mat Pilates, grip socks are highly recommended for preventing slips – alternatively, bare feet are fine.

Unfortunately the studio is small so you can’t bring your buggy in but car seats are fine.

Please bring whatever you need for feeding/changing baby – I have a limited number of baby gyms and mats that you can use, or bring a blanket with you. Anything you need to try to keep baby entertained!

Do I need Experience?

Absolutely not – I will be there to help you throughout the class. Most people have never done Pilates or used a Reformer before, or having lifted a dumbbell in a while – you’re amongst friends and there’s absolutely no judgement.

How does the class work when I have a baby with me?

For reformer, baby will lie next to you on your mat, or be beside you in their car seat. Reformer is best for younger babies – once baby starts to want plenty of interaction, to sit up or rolls or reaches, participation might be a bit more challenging.

For mat and strength and conditioning, baby will be on a mat in the room with everyone. They’ll be able to see all the goings on and this can be quite entertaining for them, so if you’ve a baby who loves to look around, and needs a bit more interaction, these classes are for you.

Feeding, nappy changing and nurturing in class is welcome – anything goes really – you can stop anytime to tend to your baby in any way you need to.
