Mummy & Baby Pilates

Mummy & Baby Pilates

A gentle Pilates class tailored specifically to post-natal women, focusing on re-building strength after pregnancy and birth to restore and re-balance the body. This is low impact strength training – but low impact doesn’t mean low intensity – you’ll be challenged but in a safe and supported way.

For reformer Pilates classes, babies are welcome until they’re able to roll around, grab and reach. For mat Pilates classes, rollers and movers are welcome, up until they’re capable crawlers.

This class is also suitable for everyone, including those who have any injuries or are still healing, such as c-section, prolapse, back or pelvic pain.

This is a small group class and is suitable for beginners. You must be at least 6 weeks post-natal (8 weeks c-section) and have GP approval to exercise.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the benefits of post-natal Pilates?

  • Relieve back and pelvic pain
  • Re-build your core and pelvic floor at a slow and safe pace
  • Bond with your baby and meet other mums
  • Build key post-natal muscles for holding and feeding baby
  • Relieve stress and body tension through meditation and breathing

What do I need to bring to the class?

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water with you.

For reformer Pilates, grip socks are essential (studio policy) and you can purchase a pair during booking. Unfortunately the studio is small and full of reformers, so you can’t bring your buggy in but you can collapse and store it in the studio.

For mat Pilates, grip socks are highly recommended for preventing slips – alternatively, bare feet are fine.  You are welcome to bring your buggy into the room.

Please bring whatever you need for feeding/changing baby – I have a limited number of baby gyms and mats that you can use, or bring a blanket with you. Anything you need to try to keep baby entertained!

Do I need Pilates experience?

Absolutely not – I will be there to help you throughout the class. Most people have never done Pilates or used a Reformer before.

How does the class work when I have a baby with me?

Baby will lie next to you on your mat, so ideally bring a blanket with you. The exercises we do in class focus on mummy – baby isn’t incorporated as such (unless you choose to hold them) however they will be laying next to you so there’s plenty of opportunity to interact. This also means that if they’re asleep, you’re still able to fully participate in the class.

Feeding, nappy changing and nurturing in class is welcome – anything goes really – you can stop anytime to tend to your baby in any way you need to.
